Congratulations to Izar Bicandi for her second Boise Weekly Jaialdi cover. To see her new cover click here.
This year, as in 2005, she created a special work of art to announce Jaialdi, one of the largest Basque Festivals in the world. Her 2005 contribution shown below and this years art, will be auctioned off to support Boise Weekly's Community Art Grant program. Izar works in many mediums besides the digital variety and brings all of her talent to every web site, logo and identity project, and print design she touches. She also teaches art from time to time.
Born in Nevada and raised in North Idaho, Izar has always had art on her mind and in her fingers. After graduating from high school she took off to the big city and attended the Art Institute of Seattle. She moved to Boise in 2002. She is a performer and former board member with the
Oinkari Basque Dancers. Izar has stayed close to her passion for design and art through her work as well. She worked for us as our creative director and lead designer for several years and during that time designed or participated in the creation of websites for most of the Basque community. She also had a studio for her painting in our office in Boise's
Northend.
She and her husband Nick and her wonderful dog Maggie live in Eagle. She continues to be active with her sister Maite Iribarren-Gorrindo in their business Ahizpak Design. Ahizpak means sisters in Euskara, the language of the Basques. Together they have an awesome variety of Basque inspired jewelry, accessories, art, photography and much more!
